Five Top Hacks From Seasoned Caravanners
Tess Biles, 1st August 2017, Caravan
We asked you for the best tips/tricks you have learnt during your time caravanning. You gave us a great selection, and we had the difficult job of whittling it down. But here are our top five caravanning hacks!
1. Pet Protection
Whether you take your dog or cat away with you, this easy tip could save you a mountain of heart ache.
Upon arriving to the site, take a simple key fob and write either your site's number or the site's name. Then attach the fob onto your pets collar and voila! In the unfortunate incident of your pet going for a walk without you, you'll know that whoever stumbles upon them first, will have the details of the site where you are staying and can return them safely to you.
2. USB Plug Sockets
One weekend my husband decided he was going to replace all the plug sockets in the caravan, with new ones that include two USB sockets. It's safe to say I wasn't convinced by his DIY plan, I just didn't see why we needed so many USB sockets?
However, I now have to swallow my words because it has been such a game changer for us! They have come in so handy for charging our phones and gadgets, so much so, we are now going to replace some of the plug sockets in our house. You can pick these up from most DIY stores,
they cost between £13-£35 depending on the spec.
3. Space saver
Take a door storage hanger, and convert it into bedroom storage. As shown on the image above, by securing the pockets around the bed frame you create storage for books, underwear, toiletries etc. Better yet if you get a duvet one size bigger than your bed, the overhang covers the pockets, hiding them from sight. Meaning the room will still look neat and tidy.
4. Cleaning the roof of your caravan
It's a job that most of us do at both the end and the beginning of the season. But whenever you next get your cleaning gear out try this handy hack.
Put some grippy gardening gloves over the ladders end points, before you lean it up against your caravan. Firstly, this will help protect the caravans exterior from scratches and dents from your ladder. Secondly, it will provide you some additional grip preventing the ladder from slipping. So simple, but very effective!
It of course goes without saying, that you should always take the necessary safety precautions before cleaning your caravan's roof.

5. Guest bedding
If you ever use your sofas as an extra sleeping area, you're not alone! But it can be hard to get bedding that both fits and is comfortable. But this hack is simply genius!
Take some cot bedding and use it as a bottom sheet on the sofa cushions. It works like a dream. They won't move throughout the night,
they are easy to wash and they don't cost a fortune.
