Fancy some water toys for spring?

It's been a while since we've looked at water toys. The range of things you can tow behind a boat, or just enjoy around it, is widening. Here's our latest roundup, from eye-watering prices down to pocket money.

Hoverboard by RZ

Let's start with the one that few of us will be buying this year - the Hoverboard by RZ. You'll probably have seen water-powered jet-packs on TV or perhaps on holiday - the rider is on the end of a wide tube which funnels water up to the pack and shoots it out at an incredible pressure.

This is a development of the same concept but built around a board (similar to a snowboard) so the water pressure forces it up into the air while you're standing on it. Not only will you need a good head for heights but a large toy budget as prices in the UK start at over £4000!

Sea Scooters

Slightly more affordable and great fun are the Sea-Doo range of sea scooters. These are essentially electrically powered propellers with hand-holds that can tow you around - on or under the water.

There's quite a range, from the sit-on Aqua Mate at just over £200 to the all-black Seascooter RS1 at £1500. We've featured the mid-range Seascooter RS3 at £899 and the distributors are expecting new stocks of all the other models in time for the Easter holidays.

Tow 'tubes'

Getting closer to the basics, 'tubes' seems to be the generic term for inflatable toys you tow along, like the 'bananas' seen on holiday. The incongruously named Absolute Snow online shop has a wide range - from simple sit-ons for less than £50 to multiple seat toys for £250 or more.

Dog Ladder!

Not exactly a toy but very useful for allowing canine friends to join in with the fun. The Paws Aboard PP-Z5200 is lightweight and attaches easily when needed. It's excellent for older dogs as it takes the strain off their joints. Available from Overstock.com who will ship to the UK.

Drink bottle water pistols

To end on, here's a true pocket money water toy - the classic water pistol, but with a difference. The main problem with water pistols is that they run out of water too quickly, but these have adapters for standard 2-litre plastic drinks bottles, giving a huge reservoir. And you're reusing a waste product into the bargain.

Have fun!

As this article is being written the snow is settling on the ground, but hopefully you'll get a chance to enjoy some of these toys soon! We hope you all have a good boating season.
